The client (your side) will switch down to B if required to. I've new used any of these devices, however I have seen several people refer to the dlink device as being good. Don't go USB connection - you wont be able to connect to it from eCS / OS/2 as simply (if at all) - better to go with ethernet, perhaps POE but only if you have a fallback to using a power supply as some laptops may not have the capability of powering and external ethernet device - best to check with your laptop manufacturer if this is possible.
