You know, I'm on a couple of those, set my preference for digest mode, (and

IF you do change your yahoogroup setting to text, the ad can be lost at the bottom of the page especially when the group's unsubscribe message can be so long. I am never bothered by any of the ads on yahoogroups. They are so low down on the view, that I hardly register them, much the same way I hardly register some of the long sigs that come up. And since I will stop scrolling at the unsubscribe message, well, I never get to the ad. I don't think that this is a valid reason to not use Yahoogroups, since you can easily ignore them. There is a digest mode, but I don't like it since people reply to the digest number without copying the subject line to the message they are posting to. The HTML version though seems (last I remember) to stick the ad in your face, download additional graphics and such. It is IMHO, a waste. Use the text only mode and all is well. And with getting about up to 12,000 emails a month a waste of my disk storage. Nine days in and already 1800 emails (only 9% spam at this point).
