Hi!  I've just installed a NetGear MA311 PCI card and the IBM miniPCI driver.

I realize the IBM driver was designed to run on a ThinkPad  but it does recognize the MA311 and works okay as far as I can see.

I have a D-Link DI-624 WAP/Router in my home and the machine with the MA311 is in another building about 70 feet away.  Nothing but 2 wood construction walls in between.   TCP/IP and File/Print sharing are working.   I  can ping and share stuff with no apparent problems.  Haven't tried print sharing yet but file sharing does work.  Telnet and ftp work with no problem.  Looks to me that the "basics" of  TCP and the peer network setup  are functioning.  Given that, I  need some help with a few things that I don't quite understand...

Performance...   When transferring a 10 meg file between the systems I'm getting a 450 KByte rate with WEP disabled.  350 KByte with 128 bit WEP enabled.   Does the  128 bit WEP really have a 25% overhead?  Are these transfer rates normal for WiFi at 70 feet?  I have a 5db gain omni-directional antenna on order for the MA311.  Will that help?

The driver...  It looks like the driver boots up with the radio off  or something.   I have to bring up  wifistat.exe to get the card to communicate.  No problem, put wifistat.exe in the startup folder.  Works good,  but then I have this window on the desktop that doesn't seem to follow the rules!  Can't minimize...  All I can do is close it...   Is it possible to  boot this  configuration up live and online without evoking wifistat?   Maybe something in the NIF file?

Stability...   With all of the above considered,  the MA311 somehow decides,  after about an hour,  that it is time to quit work and it goes "unavailable".   Nothing will bring it back short of a reboot.  Please!  What am I missing here? Any help with the above will be appreciated!  - ray
