ORiNOCO is a brand name (marque) of 802.11 products formerly owned by Agere Systems. Agere sold its 802.11 division to Proxim Corp in mid-2002 for $65M. So, in fact, your Agere chipset is indeed ORiNOCO. See http://www.proxim.com/about/pressroom/pressrelease/pr2002-06-17a.html.

You weren't fooled (at least not by Mensys), Kris. Agere probably modded the chip a bit in that build they OEM'd to Artem.

You probably are in the same situation as I was/am. The Artem (jacaranda) card I purchased 2 years ago wasn't nor Artem nor jacaranda; only yesterday I figured out (by means of Lanscan) the manufacturer is "Agere" (never heard of that firm, have you????)

Lanscan ?? This one says:

ARtem Onair ComCard 11
CC-W11-STD-PC-FCC-128
P/N 012606/B

Her Lanscan just gives:

MAC address                          Manufacturer

0002-d30-d2fb                          Agere systems

The box in which the card came in tells it's an ARtem Onair ComCard with Orinoco chip & blabla. And drivers on CD and provided by Mensys are the Artem 1.42.

Looks like I genuinly have been fooled.
