All's well that ends well.
Frankly, it would have probably been a better design to make the power management module an executable run from startup.cmd. This way, one could be assured that it was indeed loaded after all the device drivers. IOW, stub the code in PCMCIA.SYS and enable it with something like ICPMOS2.EXE (and before everyone catches wind of my make-believe filename, this program DOES NOT exist). Sort of the way in which we turn on HPFS386 caching... The CONFIG.SYS gets so hacked with installations that without constant pruning and sorting, it becomes practically unmanageable (as you know).

The behaviour has changed now that the $ICPMOS2 line has been moved nearer the end of the file and the msg no longer appears.
