Are you sure it didn't find a connection somewhere else?
I'll try to look through my email from Jens to see if he mentioned this debug data to me anywhere.

Should be associated with an AP, or at least, "found an AP."
If it is in Ad-Hoc mode I would expect it to be looking for an AP...

Nope!
Just checked by rebooting my notebook... The other system is not running at the moment so there is no possibility of an ad-hoc connection to another system currently, but it clearly says in lantran.log:-
CFG_LINK_STAT: Station connected
In fact the same line get appended every 10 secs or so. At the same time the activity light is flashing furiously.
