This is from Julian Thomas who asked me to post this for him, as his Verizon account is not yet subscribed o the list for posting:

Well, it wasn't the "VZ" account that isn't subscribed, it is the webmail
interface at jt-mj.net (which has a different userid for strange reasons).

At any rate, the problem was all in how the router was configured.  It was
set for encryption on wireless, but wouldn't let me in even on a wired
connection.  Switching to a different router worked (although his
connection won't work with this router).

Did he also have MAC address protection on?  My Belkin requires even Wired connections to be in the list of authorized MAC addresses while my mon's Linksys only requires MAC for the wireless connections.
