This is what I was going to go over with Jeff via PM (free vs custom DDNS). Again, as has been said, the easiest setup is when the router has a supported built-in client for this. AFAIK, all the clients which support DynDNS (and it is important to remember that DynDNS.com, DynDNS.org, and MyDynDNS.org are *all* the same entity: Dynamic Network Services, LLC).
